Bunko
By Randy Dyer
Let me add my thanks to Nancy Burgess, for being ever the perfect hostess, and to all of you who attended the latest Bunko Bash on behalf of OTS.
The volunteers of OTS are overwhelmed by your thoughtful generosity. Our biggest challenge has been finding appropriate toys, gifts and books for teenagers in the families we serve, and thanks to you all, we are now well stocked.
For those who don’t know, Off The Streets is a volunteer-based organization, founded by Jimmy and Kathy Nalls, that provides donated furniture to families leaving homeless shelters and moving into their first home. While public and private agencies do their best to deal with our neighbors who have fallen into homelessness, in many cases these families have to live in a single motel room for weeks or months before state funding allows them to move into an apartment. Without OTS, these families would have to live in the apartment without beds, chairs, kitchen and bathroom supplies until they could earn enough money to buy them. With your help, we are able to give them the things that they need to make their new apartment into a home.
Many of you are OTS volunteers already. I’ve taken the liberty of adding those who are not to our list so you can learn more about what we do. My hope is that you will take the opportunity to join us on one of our future moves to see for yourself what all this means to the families we serve.
