A Job Well and Truly Done

By Randy Dyer

When these last-minute moves come up, I always worry that nobody will be able to make it, and I am always surprised that I end up having to tell some people to stand down because we are oversubscribed. This was another one.

First, the surprise. The mother and two-week-old turned out to be a mother, a two week old and a 5-year-old boy. I know the Toy and Book Committee will be upset that we missed that one, but fortunately we have a few items in the storage area and were able to put something together for him. BTW, the things they came up with for the newborn were perfect.

Speaking of perfect. Today’s crew was a model of efficiency. Joe Ferrante, Jim Griffin, Bob Hamilton, Joe Haynos and Brian Hinkle, all under the capable leadership of Billy Dankos. They are all veterans and saw to their work effortlessly. The distaff side featured Barbara Emanuele and Marian Moriarity who, as usual, did everything.

Door to door in an hour and fifteen. That’s a professional move.

Special kudos to Bob Hamilton. When we realized we didn’t bring enough light bulbs, Bob didn’t hesitate. He was in the car heading to a store.

Kudos also to those who volunteered but were told the boat was full. Andre Jackson, Amy Modlin, Meg Kinneberg, Phil Burroughs, Jim Gleason, Paul Smith and the collective Caseys were all on call and will be on call next time.

Amanda Fangmeyer couldn’t be there but promised to hook the family up with the Gabriel Network that provides support for young mothers.

If you don’t love and admire the OTS volunteers, you haven’t been paying attention.
