It's Your Table
By Randy Dyer
After the last move, Jim Perrault wrote in to ask why I didn’t tell the story about the 4-year-old girl who, when we were leaving that job, jumped out of her new chair and hugged my legs, then went around and hugged every woman in the room.
I’ll answer that in a moment.
Meanwhile, we have one move, so far, for Saturday: a mother and her four children — girls ages 6, 7, and 11, and a 13-year-old boy. This one is in North Potomac, a neighborhood into which we have not yet ventured, so it will be a first for us.
Speaking of firsts, I need to report that in the last few weeks we have seen eight — count ’em, eight — newbies among our faithful crew. I feel certain they’ll all be back in the future, and I hope we can add to that number as we go along.
So, we’re looking for a crew — or two — for Saturday morning.
Oh, and to answer Jim’s question: it’s certainly not the first time children have hugged us for what we do. It’s one of the rewards for helping neighbors when they need us most.
But I’d rather tell you another story.
During the move, after Billy Dankos assembled the dining room table and Pam Collins arranged the tablecloth, that same little girl ran over to her new toys and pulled out the tea set.
She immediately began putting cups, plates, and a glass on the table.
“Yes, it’s your table, honey. Sit wherever you like.”
